Commerical vs. Artistic
This photo is commercial because, clearly, it is a magazine cover. It contains bright colors and big text, which are being used to attract customers, and get them to buy the magazine.
This photo is artistic due to the fact that it is a very simple portrait, and isn't advertising anything, unlike the magazine cover. It's not flashy and there are no bright colors or text. Also, the way the photo is cropped horizontally puts more emphasis on the subject's face, rather than what she is wearing, which also makes it clear that the photo isn't necessarily trying to attract customers to buy something.

Portraits
Classic Portraits:
The two photos above were my favorite classic portraits-- to edit them, I fixed the framing to get rid of empty space, boosted the colors (blacks, brightness, clarity, etc) and added a slight vignette. I particularly like these two photos because they turned out the best after being edited; before, the colors were slightly washed out, and I think the slight adjustments I made made a great improvement.
Environmental Portrait:
The photo above is an environmental portrait of myself, taken in front of a wall in my bedroom. To edit it, I boosted the vibrance to make the pictures on the wall stand out more, because the wall is what classifies the portrait as 'environmental.' I also increased the clarity, brightness and exposure, and added a vignette.

Photo Effects
Daguerreotype (an early photographic process with the image made on a light-sensitive silver-coated metallic plate.)
Both of these daguerrotypes were taken downtown--I particularly like the photo with the 'Portland' sign, because the sign has historical value, which as a result adds to the daguerreotype effect, and makes it more realistic.
Tilt-Shift (an image effect that simulates a 'miniature scene', or makes certain objects in an image look miniature.)
This photo was also taken downtown-the fact that it was taken from a bird's eye view makes it overall more effective. I particularly liked this photo because of the color of the trees (which was one of the final edits made). I think the darker green puts emphasis on the cars, and in general just makes this picture stand out.

Lighting Assignment
Silhouette
To edit this photo, I increased the blacks, the exposure, and the vibrance of the colors to make the silhouette of the bridge stand out as much as possible.
Chiaroscuro
To edit this photo, I messed with the colors as well as the blacks and the exposure to create a Sepia tone, which as a result created an interesting lighting effect (and also made the photo look more like a chiaroscuro.)
Shadow
For this photo, I increased the vibrance, the saturation, the blacks and the brightness to put more emphasis on the shadow.
Reflection
In this photo, I wanted to better emphasize the reflection from the water, so I primarily increased the vibrance and the saturation in the plants.
Back Lighting: Subject Lit Up
For this photo, I increased the exposure and the brightness to emphasize the back lighting.
